MOE announced in March 2022 to remove mid-year exams to give more space to developing life skills which include self-directed learning and developing 21st century competencies like knowledge, skills and values that students will need to thrive in the new economy and interconnected world.
It is a step towards inculcating the joy of learning and away from over-emphasis on academic results using a variety of learning experiences to develop their interests.
