Mr Lee was the wealthiest man in the neighbourhood. He lived in a large, grand-looking house that was surrounded by a beautiful garden.
However, he was also the most selfish man there. As a result, none of his neighbours liked him.
If any of his neighbours asked him to contribute money for a new school building or to help poor families in the community,
he would glare at them and snap, "Why should I donate money to help anybody? I work hard for it, so I will not give it away to anyone."
It was no surprise that he had no friends at all.
One evening, while he was watching television, Mr Lee fell asleep on his sofa and had a dream. He saw a wooden coffin in front of him.
A man who looked rather familiar lay in it. A few people were standing around and chatting with each other.
Nobody was upset about the death of the man. He heard somebody saying, "Mr Lee was such a stingy man. He kept all his money to himself.
Now that he is dead, of what use is all that money to him?" Mr Lee then realised that the man in the coffin was none other than himself!
He woke up from his hightmare, his heart pounding very hard and fast.
The next morning, Mr Lee donated a large sum of money to an old folks' home.
The money was used to buy new pillows and blankets for the old folks. When Mr Lee saw that his thoughtful act made so many people smile, he felt very happy.
From then on, Mr Lee often helped the needy people around him.
The long-awaited school holidays had finally arrived. Father decided to take Jake on a trip to the mountains.
They were in a crammed carriage, eagerly waiting for the train to depart. There were more families than usual.
Finally, an automated voice came on, announcing the departure of the train.
Jake seemed so surprised to see everything. He exclaimed to his father, "Dad, the train is moving and the things outside are moving backwards.”
As the train moved, the scenery blurred. Jake squealed unexpectedly, "Dad, the trees are green in colour and run backward quickly."
A drink seller, who was selling various drinks, pushed the trolley past them.
The young boy cried, “I love the different colours of the drinks.” He could not take his eyes off the drinks and stood up to follow the seller.
The families on the train did not bother to conceal their displeasure.
They locked their gaze on Jake's father and one of them asked, “What's wrong with your son? He looks like he is fifteen and he is acting like he is five!”
Father replied softly, “My son lost his sight at the age of five. He regained sight a few days ago. He is seeing things for the first time after ten years.”
Guilt was written all over their faces. With downcast eyes, they stared at the floor. They learnt a valuable lesson that day.
